2. HEALTH TIP-WASH YOUR HANDS
Students please remember to wash your hands often in an effort to reduce germs and the transfer of germs to others as we move into the cold and flu season! Thanks.

3. LIBRARY
The library will be closed from Thursday 11/19 through Wednesday 11/25 for inventory. We will not be open before school or during the lunch periods. Please plan your day accordingly.

4. PHILANTHROPIC PROJECT
The Lions Club has asked schools to collect old/used eye glasses for their philanthropic project this year. Please turn in all old/used eye glasses to the Main Office throughout the year.

5. TUTORING
After school tutoring will continue through the school year. Students interested in receiving extra help in math and science should check it out. Tutoring in math is available on Monday, room 106; Tuesday, room 106; and Wednesday, room 154; science is available on Wednesday, room 154; and Thursday, room 154. No need to sign up--just show up for a little extra help!

6. ENGLISH TUTORING
Before school tutoring in English will begin Monday, November 23. Students interested in receiving extra help in English should check it out. Tutoring in English is available Monday through Thursday in room 120 from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. No need to sign up—just show up for a little extra help!

7. COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS
A Representative from St. Louis University will visit the Guidance office on Wednesday, November 18. Any Junior or Senior who would like to speak with the representative about what the college has to offer, please sign up with Mrs. Roman in the Guidance Office.

8. REPORT CARDS
Report Cards will be sent home with students on Friday, Nov. 20th.



9. KNOWLEDGE MASTERS
Knowledge Masters will practice on Tuesday and Thursday this week from 3:20 until 4:00 in Room 316. We will also practice on Sunday, November 22, again from 3:00 until 5:00. Please bring $3.00 for pizza and drinks will be provided.

There is NO practice on Tuesday, November 24, so these are the last practices before our competition on December2. If former members have not been to two practices, they will not be allowed to compete. See Mrs. Layton if you have questions.

10. CONGRATULATIONS HONOR BAND MEMBERS
A big congratulations to THN band members who performed with the IBA District Honor Band this weekend at Northview HS. This honor band consisted of the top musicians from around the area. Thirteen students were selected to represent Terre Haute North in this ensemble, several of which have participated multiple times. Participants included: Mattie Biggs, Joshua Moore, Daniel Mutchler, Caleb Moore, Boyd Grover, James Welter, Ben Hutchison, Kevin Kuo, Jimmy Priester, Alex Updike, Justin Elder, Dylan Trueblood and Isaac Behman.

11. DARWIN’S FOOTSTEPS
Follow Mrs. Cantin and Mrs. Layton to “Darwin’s Footsteps” to the Galapagos Islands for Spring Break 2010. Information is available in room 130.

12. PARKING PERMITS
ALL student drivers MUST register their automobiles for the 2009-2010 school year. T. H. North Parking Permits will be sold prior to school and during lunch periods. Parking Permits may be purchased for $1 and will be sold during both times in the Dean’s Office. Please bring your driver’s license, license plate number, make and model of vehicle, year and color of vehicle, and the name of the individual in which the vehicle is registered.

13. GIRLS BASKETBALL FUNDRAISER
The girls Basketball team is selling Beef House rolls, apple butter and strawberry jam. Contact Coach Allen or one of the players if you would like to order something.

15. ATTENTION JUNIORS
Richard Lugar's 33rd Annual Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders will be held on December 12, 2009 on the campus of the University of Indianapolis. The day will last from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is no cost, other than travel, and lunch will be provided. North will be able to send two representatives from the junior class. Topics for the mini-sessions include the following: U.S. Leadership in the World, Media Responsibility, Health Care Reform, Food and Energy Security, Immigration, Climate Change and Truthfulness. Ms. Pair in the Guidance Department will compile a list of interested students. Once a list of interested students is compiled, those students may be asked to provide additional information for the selection process.

16. JUNIOR CLASS FUNDRAISER
Did you recently get a new cell phone? Do you have any old cell phones lying around your house?
If so, please help the junior class raise money by turning in your old cell phones. Turn in cell phones to a donation box in the Dean’s Office through November 20, 2009.

17. “BOOKS ARE FUN”
The “Books are Fun” Christmas holiday book display is in the library. Orders (with payment) are due by early morning on Wed., Nov. 25th.

You are invited to apply for the Take a Course on Us program at Ivy Tech that allows you to take a course at Ivy Tech TUITION FREE (the only cost is your book) during the spring semester. Applications are online this year and students should go to https://secure.goivytech.net/take course/. Once you are ready to apply, click on the "Begin Application" link at the bottom of the page. 19. TERRE HAUTE NORTH PATRIOT BRIGADE
Terre Haute North Patriot Brigade is a Finalist for Mid-States Band Association for the 3rd year in a row. This past weekend, the Terre Haute North Marching Band also known as the "Patriot Brigade" made their way to Mason, OH for the annual Midstates Band Association Circuit Championships. Qualifying as a top ten finalist in class AAAA, the band competed in the finals and placed 6th overall - the highest placement in the band's history as a finalist. The band also took 3rd in visual and the color guard placed 3rd overall. This is the 3rd year in a row that the band has qualified as a MSBA finalist. The band directors, Brooke Basso and Jeremy Basso, are extremely proud of this group and look forward to next year!

20. SPEECH AND ACTING TEAM
Terre Haute North speakers and actors! Have you heard of the speech and acting team? It's a competitive academic team with room for almost anyone who likes to be in front of an audience. We have just received the date for the first meet in our section, and it's December 5th, so we need to get going. If you know you want to be on the team this year, or you're just looking for more information, see Mrs. Sponsler.

21. “1, 2, 3, 4, Student Council declares a PENNY WAR!”
WHO: Any and All Clubs. WHAT: Are asked to help raise the THN goal of $2,000. WHEN: Bring pennies in from now until December 16, 2009. Why: To help THN become a Riley Miracle of Hope School.

If 20 clubs raise just $10 in pennies, we will reach our goal and show our Patriot pride by helping needy children! The club that raises the MOST money will be rewarded with a pizza party by the student council.

Please let Mrs. Gatrell or Mrs. Mason know if you will be willing to participate in this worthy cause! Thank you in advance!

RECYCLING
Any teacher without a paper recycling box should contact Ms. Sobieski. To get on Mr. Boland's paper recycling schedule please contact Mr. Boland and your recycled paper will be picked up on a regular basis.. Aluminum and plastic beverage containers are recycled around the pool and in the teachers’ lounge. Please leave the caps on the plastic bottles and be sure to empty the aluminum cans. If you have large quantities, please bring directly to Ms. Sobieski instead of filling up the barrels. Thanks for recycling!

If you ordered any pumpkin or other flavored rolls from the Air Force JROTC fundraiser, they will be available for pickup after school on Thursday, November 12.
