General Diploma Requirements
Class of 2009
_____ English: 9 credits (Three credits must be from English 9. Six credits must be from English 10, 11, and 12. English 12 must include one term of literature (Literary Movements, British Literature, English 12 Literature, Classical Literature) AND one term of Composition (Composition, Advanced Composition, Advanced Speech, and English 12 Composition). Two credits may be waived for students having successfully completed a Level III foreign language program. Two credits may be from Career Technology courses having predominately language arts content.
_____ Social Studies: 6 credits (two credits from World History, Geography, or European History; two credits in U.S. History; two credits in Government and Economics)
_____ Math: 5 credits (five credits in sequence—Business Math may be substituted for two credits; Algebra I is required for graduation)
_____Science: 4 credits (four credits from more than one of the following: Earth, Life, and Physical)
_____Health: 1 credit (This credit may be waived for students who have a minimum of three credits from among the following: Interpersonal Relationships, Nutrition, Child Development, Human Development, Careers, and Adult Roles)
_____P.E.: 1 credit (P.E. I and II)
_____Electives: 22 credits
_____Total credits: 48

Core 40 Diploma Requirements
Classes of 2009

_____English: 9 credits (English 9A/9AH, 10A/10AH, 11A/11AH, and two credits from 12 AP, Literary Movements, Classical Literature, Composition, Advanced Composition, Advanced Speech, and British Literature)
_____Math: 6-8 credits (8 credits from Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Statistics; students who earned Algebra I credit in the eighth grade need to take only six additional credits. However, the eighth grade Algebra I credits do not count toward the 48 needed for this diploma)
_____Social Studies: 6 credits distributed as follows: U.S. History (2), Government (1), Economics (1), World History and/or Geography (1), additional credit from any social studies area (1)
_____Science: 6 credits distributed as follows: Biology (2), Chemistry or Physics (2), and two additional credits from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Earth/Space Science
_____Foreign Language: 6 credits in one language or 4 credits in a first language and 4 in a second language. The Exploring classes do not fill any credits for this requirement.
_____Fine Arts: 2 credits from art, music, or drama
