VIGO COUNTY SCHOOL CORPORATION
TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA

File: ___BBFA__

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

A Board Member shall not have any direct pecuniary interest in a contract with the School Corporation, nor shall the Board Member furnish directly any labor, equipment, or supplies to the Corporation unless such interest or activity is permitted by state law upon the filing of a written disclosure as required by statute.

In the event a Board Member is employed by a business, or has a secondary interest in a corporation or business which furnishes goods or services to the School Corporation, the Board Member shall declare his interest and refrain from debating or voting upon the question of contracting with the company.

It is not the intent of this policy to prevent the Corporation from contracting with businesses because a Board Member is an employee of the firm. This policy is designed to prevent placing a School Board Member in a position where his interest in the public schools and his interest in the place of his employment (or other indirect interest) might conflict, and to avoid appearance of conflict of interest even though such conflict may not exist.

NEPOTISM

No member of the immediate family of any member of the Board of School Trustees will be employed in any continuing capacity by the Vigo County School Corporation. This policy will not be construed as necessitating the resignation of any employee who is currently related to a member of the Board nor shall it necessitate the resignation of any employee who is related to a member of the Board elected after the hiring of such employee. Members of the immediate family are defined as follows: spouse, children, brother, sister, mother, and father.

Exceptions to the policy may be granted by the Board when it is deemed to be in the best interests of the School Corporation.
