I am originally from Albion, Indiana and came to Terre Haute to attend Indiana State. I enjoy going to music concerts and cooking for family and friends. Along with teaching at Fuqua, I teach at Hoosier Prairie Elementary three days a week.

I use the Orff Schulwerk teaching method in my classroom. Using this method, the children get to become active participants in a musical experience. I believe children learn by doing. In my classroom students have many opportunities to experience music through playing instruments, singing, and creative movement. I believe children should be their own composers. In my class we use nursery rhymes and children's literature as an impetus for composition and improvisation.

Mrs. Tyra writes:
I started teaching music in VCSC in 1992. My husband and I live in Linton. We have two children, a boy and a girl. When I'm not teaching, you could find me at church, home, or visiting with family and friends. I love to read, cook, sing, travel, shop, talk, and drink coffee. Music is a wonderful thing in my life, and I love to share it with students.
