$$$$Math Incentive Program$$$$
Third Grade
In the spring, students can look forward to a math incentive program. They learn how to manage checking accounts and then earn money to deposit in their accounts by completing math homework, making progress on math skills, and doing well on math tests. Expenses consist of rent for sitting in their chairs and purchasing their chairs once they earn enough money. Terre Haute First Financial Bank donated the check book ledgers and covers for each child. The grant from the Education Foundation, a supplemental grant from Wal-Mart, and private donations allowed the students to purchase items to be auctioned. When they earn $250, they may buy their chairs and save to buy additional chairs to rent. At the end of the year the "money" is used to buy items at an auction. Mr. John Newman from Shadow's Auction Barn conducts the auction for the classes. Prices for items tend to be high. Dolls, purses, and scooters bring over $1,000! It appears that the high prices of gasoline have even affected the price of auction items. The grant from the Education Foundation, a supplemental grant from Wal-Mart, and private donations allowed the students to purchase items to be auctioned. Be sure to ask your child about how much money they have in their accounts this spring.
