This Wednesday, though, many teachers are promoting #Blackout4Ed Wednesday, to draw attention to the need for adequate funding for public education. If you see an educator wearing black today, ask them why.

Every year is a great year to celebrate our teachers, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

Today we’re highlighting Mr. Randy Spencer, a science teacher at Honey Creek Middle School.

What motivates you?

I receive a lot of my energy from being around the students which in turn, motivates me. I love to watch the personal growth of students each year. Students will often display the ” I got it look” in class. This is such a great feeling to know that we as educators get to play a part of that.

How has your job changed due to COVID?

COVID has changed my job in many ways. Just like other professions, there are the extra safety measures that have to be taken. I think the one that has been the hardest is reading facial expressions with a mask that covers a good portion of the students’ faces. As educators, we are shaping lives, and we need to be in tune with our students to help them. Also missing those big smiles!

""What is something that people don’t understand about your job?

A teacher’s job does not stop at the end of the school day. We take home the concerns about our students. We might even wake up thinking how we could be able to do something different to make that impact.

Why do you love VCSC/your school?

I have loved the opportunities VCSC has provided for me. There have been great opportunities for professional development. The leadership in our corporation has offered the support to be a better educator. I have also appreciated the positive influence of ISU with our corporation.

I teach at Honey Creek Middle School. Our leadership in our building sets the tone. We work together to provide a safe, caring environment for students to excel in learning. I am so fortunate to also work with a team that is connected and strives to provide a quality education and experience for our students. We do have the best corporation!

Be sure to check back on #Staffurday–Saturday, that is–as we recognize members of our non-teaching staff. We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
