Every Saturday, we highlight a non-teaching staff member on our Facebook and Twitter (@vcsc_teamvigo) account, turning Saturday into #Staffurday to introduce you to some of the people who make school happen!

Every year is a great year to celebrate our staff, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

Today, meet Linda Wright, the cafeteria manager at Terre Town Elementary School.

What motivates you?
My motivation has always been feeding the kids with food made from love.

How has your job changed due to COVID?
Communication has been the hardest thing for us, children not being able to see us smiling at them as they come into the cafeteria.

What is something that people don’t understand about your job?
I believe the misunderstanding is that we just serve food, when we also serve love and compassion to all the children!

Why do you love VCSC/your school?
I love VCSC for the way they always step up for the kids, just like now during this pandemic!  I love my school because we’re just one big family doing our best for the kids!

Be sure to check back on Wednesday as we highlight another teacher for #RedforEd Wednesday! We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.

We’re highlighting a teacher every Wednesday as a part of the #RedForEd campaign.

Every year is a great year to celebrate our teachers, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

Today we’re highlighting Mrs. Stephanie Barnett, a kindergarten teacher at Terre Town Elementary School.

What motivates you?
Wanting to do my best, not just for my family, but for my students as well.

How has your job changed due to COVID?
COVID has changed many things for us this year. I hate that we cannot see our students’ whole faces. It’s hard to caution your students about wanting to share with their friends (a fundamental lesson in kindergarten) because of COVID.  Wearing masks makes teaching phonemic awareness a bit tricky.

What is something that people don’t understand about your job?
I don’t think people understand what we really do in kindergarten. The students work so hard, as do the teachers. We have many students who enter without even knowing how to hold a pencil correctly, and they leave us after 180 days reading simple sentences and more.

Why do you love VCSC/your school?
I absolutely love Terre Town! We are a large school with a big staff, but it truly feels like a family. Also, my kindergarten team is the best!

Be sure to check back on #Staffurday–Saturday, that is–as we recognize members of our non-teaching staff. We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.
