JANUARY 12, 2004

MINUTES

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

The Organizational Meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo County School Corporation, Vigo County, Indiana, was held at the Administration Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana, on the 12^th day of January 2004, at 7:13 P.M.

The following Board Members were present: Mr. Michael Tom, Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Gene Shike, Mr. Alferd Hamblen, Mr. Guille Cox, Dr. Joseph Minnis, and Mr. Kenneth Schuster.

Organization of the Board

Designation of Temporary Chairperson

Dr. Minnis stated that if there were no objections from Board Members he would serve as temporary chairperson. There were no objections.

Election of President

Mr. Burks moved that Mr. Tom be elected Board President. Mr. Hamblen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Election of Vice President

Mr. Burks nominated Mr. Hamblen for Vice President. Mr. Hamblen withdrew his name.

Mr. Schuster moved that Mr. Cox be elected Vice President. Dr. Minnis seconded the motion. Mr. Tom, Mr. Shike, Mr. Hamblen, Mr. Cox, Dr. Minnis, and Mr. Schuster voted “aye.” Mr. Burks “abstained.”

Election of Secretary

Dr. Minnis moved that Mr. Shike be elected Secretary. Mr. Schuster seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Election of Deputy Secretary

Mr. Shike moved that Dr. Minnis be elected Deputy Secretary. Mr. Schuster seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Election of Indiana School Boards Association Legislative Liaison Member

Mr. Tom stated that if there were no objections, Mr. Cox would like to continue to serve as the Indiana School Boards Association Legislative Liaison. There were no objections.

Election of Board of Finance Officers for 2004

and

Summary of Investments for 2003

Mr. Cox moved approval of the Board of Finance Officers for 2004, and the Summary of Investments for 2003. Mr. Burks seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Appointment of Vigo County School Corporation Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer

Mr. Burks moved to appoint Mr. Thomas Thornton as Treasurer and Mrs. Donna Wilson as Deputy Treasurer of the Vigo County School Corporation. Mr. Hamblen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Appointment of Board Member to attend meetings of the Parent Advisory Council

Mr. Tom stated that if there were no objections, Mr. Hamblen has agreed to continue serving as the Board representative to the Parent Advisory Council. There were no objections.

Appointment of Board Member to serve on the Board of Directors for the Vigo County Education Foundation, Inc.

Mr. Tom stated that if there were no objections, Dr. Minnis would like to continue serving on the Board of Directors for the Vigo County Education Foundation, Inc. There were no objections.

Appointment of Board Member to attend meetings of the Vocational Advisory Council

Mr. Tom stated that if there were no objections, Mr. Schuster would like to serve as the representative to attend meetings of the Vocational Advisory Council. There were no objections.

Calendar of Board Meeting Dates for 2004

Mr. Thornton presented the proposed calendar of Board Meeting Dates for 2004. Following considerable discussion regarding the number of meetings to be held each month, Dr. Minnis moved that the Board of School Trustees hold meetings two times each month with the exception of December that will have one scheduled meeting. Mr. Shike seconded the motion. Mr. Shike, Mr. Hamblen, Mr. Cox, Dr. Minnis, and Mr. Schuster voted “aye.” Mr. Tom and Mr. Burks voted “no.”
