A meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo
County School Corporation, Vigo County, Indiana, was held at the Administration
Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana, on the 8th day of
September 2003 at 7:14 P.M.
The following Board Members were present: Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Gene Shike, Mr. Alferd
Hamblen, Mr. Guille Cox, Dr. Joseph Minnis, Mr. Kenneth Schuster, and
Mr. Michael Tom.
Spotlight
Joe Massa, sophomore Design and Engineering student at Terre Haute South Vigo High School, was recognized for winning top honors in the Indiana SkillsUsa competition. He also represented Indiana and the Vigo County School Corporation at the National Career and Technology Association SkillsUsa competition where he placed 8th in the math competitive event.

Consent Agenda
Mr. Shike moved for approval of the Consent Agenda. Mr. Hamblen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The following Consent Agenda items were approved:
a. Minutes – Public Hearing on 2004 Budget – August 25, 2003
b. Minutes – Regular Meeting – August 25, 2003
c. Professional Leave Requests
New Business
Personnel Report
Mr. Tanoos presented the Personnel Report for approval with the following correction:
Addition: VII, Item 2 – Change of Assignment
Mrs. Lisa Kooistra – Otter Creek Middle School,
Change from FACS Teacher, .62, to FACS Teacher, .64
effective for the 2003-2004 school year. Additional time.
Mr. Tom moved to approve the Personnel Report with the above noted change. Mr. Cox seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Shoe Bus Project 2003-2004
Mr. Tanoos requested permission for the continued use of the storage area at the former Maple Avenue School building for the continuation of the Shoe Bus Project for the 2003-2004 school year. He noted that the Shoe Bus Project is sponsored by the Terre Haute Woman’s Club.
Mr. Hamblen moved for approval. Mr. Cox seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Information and Proposals from Board Members
Mr. Tanoos thanked the staff for a nearly flawless start to the school year. Mr. Tanoos also asked that we keep Governor O’Bannon in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
