M I N U T E S

A meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo County School Corporation was held at the Vigo County School Corporation Administration Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.

The following Board Members were present: Dr. Joseph Minnis, Mr. Paul Lockhart,

Ms. Alpa Patel, Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Gene Shike, Mrs. Jackie Lower, and Mr. Guille Cox.

Resolution of Memoriam

Ms. Patel presented a Resolution of Memoriam for Mrs. Latrice Purnell, former Grade 4 Teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary School.

Spotlight

The Gifted and Talented Program highlighted segments from the Performing Arts Workshop and the Visual Arts Institute. The Performing Arts Workshop and the Visual Arts Institute began June 2 and concluded on June 27, 2008, with over 100 students participating throughout Vigo County. Ms. Jill Brewer directed the Performing Arts Workshop, and Ms. Diane Songer directed the Visual Arts Institute.

Consent Agenda

Mr. Shike moved for approval of the Consent Agenda. Mr. Lockhart seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The following Consent Agenda items were approved:

New Business

Personnel Report

Mr. Tanoos presented the Personnel Report for approval.

Ms. Patel moved for approval. Dr. Minnis seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Textbooks for Third and Fourth Year Latin

Mr. Tanoos requested approval for the use of the third and fourth year Latin textbooks listed in the Board Packet.

Mr. Burks moved for approval. Dr. Minnis seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Grants

Mr. Tanoos requested approval of the following Grants:

1. Tech Prep Planning Grant – Booker T. Washington High School

2. Carl D. Perkins Grant

3. Noon Optimist Club of Terre Haute Grant

4. Project Lead the Way Grant – Terre Haute North Vigo High School

5. Project Lead the Way Grant – Terre Haute South Vigo High School

6. Project Led the Way Grant – West Vigo High School

Mr. Dillion responded to questions, and presented a brief overview of the Carl D. Perkins

Grant.

Ms. Patel moved for approval of the above six Grants. Mr. Shike seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Information and Proposals from Board Members and Superintendent Tanoos

Mr. Shike welcomed Mr. Newport as the Director of Secondary Education.

Mr. Tanoos noted that the administration would like to present the Budget at the August 11, 2008 Board Meeting. He stated that meetings have been held with new principals and interns. Mr. Tanoos also said that he and Dr. Goeller attended a Leadership conference at Indiana State University, and are making plans for the first day back to school for students on August 19^th.
