M I N U T E S

 

 

A meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo County School Corporation was held at the Vigo County School Corporation Administration Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.

 

The following Board Members were present:  Mr. Paul Lockhart, Ms. Alpa Patel,

Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Gene Shike, Mrs. Jackie Lower, Mr. Guille Cox. and Dr. Joseph Minnis.

 

Pledge of Allegiance

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Mel Burks.

 

Spotlight

 

Ms. Deb Webster, Athletics Director at Terre Haute South Vigo High School, was honored for receiving the Indiana High School Athletic Association “Sportsmanship Award” at the National Federation of State High Schools 9th Annual Girls and Women in Sports Day Luncheon in Indianapolis.

Consent Agenda

 

Mr. Burks moved for approval of the Consent Agenda.  Mr. Lockhart seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

New Business

 

Personnel Report

 

Mr. Tanoos presented the Personnel Report to the Board.

 

Mr. Burks moved for approval.  Ms. Patel seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Grant

 

Mr. Tanoos requested approval for Terre Haute South Vigo High School to participate in the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s First Robotics Grant.  He noted that the grant is for $6,000.00 and students will develop science, technology, engineering, and math skills through hands-on activities while designing, building, and competing with their robot.

 

Following brief discussion, Mr. Shike moved for approval of the Grant.  Dr. Minnis seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

Information and Proposals from Board Members

 

Dr. Minnis asked what percent of healthy products are being used in the school vending machines.  Mr. Azar responded that he would resend a report by the Wellness Committee that was submitted last October.

 

Mrs. Lower congratulated the West Vigo students who one the Clabber Girl Bake-Off.

 

Mr. Lockhart congratulated Superintendent Tanoos on winning the Junior Achievement Educator of the Year award.

 

Mr. Lockhart asked how the Feasibility Study was progressing.  Mr. Tanoos responded that he is currently negotiating a price with Schmidt Associates.
