Information and Proposals from Board Members
Dr. Minnis asked for clarification as to why the paper published ISTEP scores from last year instead of this year. Mr. Tanoos responded that the law states ISTEP scores are to be published from the previous year.
Dr. Minnis commented that we seem to be in the minority as far as offering algebra to our 8th grade students and asked if it were offered in the 8th grade.
Mr. Tanoos responded that Vigo County does offer algebra to 8th grade students. He said he would inquire as to why the article did not include Vigo County and report back to the Board.
Mr. Burks congratulated the students at Honey Creek Middle School who qualified for the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge State Championship event.
Mr. Hamblen read the following excerpt from an editorial written by Dr. Randy Stevens that appeared in the Terre Haute Tribune Star regarding the hiring of Superintendent Tanoos:
“It sure is rewarding to realize that those months of meeting with other committee members, almost six years ago, has continued to have such positive impact on the community. Thank you Danny Tanoos for your leadership, thank you, the present Vigo County School Board Members, for continuing to recognize the truly outstanding superintendent we have leading this school corporation.”
