Second grade teachers at Dixie
Bee include Cheryl Thornton, Tim Moss, Lisa Sluder , Kathy Canal, and
Sandy Johnson. We feel a good learning experience is built on a joint
effort
between
parent, child, and teacher. Our
expectations for academic growth in second
grade are high. The Indiana Academic Standards are addresses daily as
we
strive to meet each child's individual needs. Cooperative learning
activities
are an important part of the second grade curriculum, and feel that
children
should be actively engaged in the learning process. It is our
goal to instill a love of reading in
our students. We use a variety of printed material to develop life long
learners.
Science and Social Studies are integrated into our reading program
throughout
the year. Classroom research stimulates an interest in reading and
develops
quality writing skills. Learning basic
math facts is very important in second
grade, however, mathematics is more than computation. Children are
challenged
to apply problem solving skills to everyday life situations. Parent
involvement is an intregal part of student
growth at Dixie Bee. We welcome and appreciate your support throughout
the
school year.
